While I adore the general idea of the Bondmate system, the implementation leaves something to be desired. I would like to expand the system so that the choice who becomes whose bondmate matters more. Make bondmates able to perform certain unique actions based on what kind of weapon they have equipped.
For example, I always liked an “archangel” type covering fire from a sniper, so perhaps a sniper on Overwatch could gain Long Watch + Covering Fire overwatch with an aim bonus against enemies that target their bondmate.
A Ranger could be commanded by their bondmate to Clear A Path, and then the ranger would dash to a target area and attack enemies with their sword. Or perhaps perform a counterattack with their sword against the next enemy that targets Ranger’s bondmate.
A Gunner could lay down Area Suppression, granting a Move-only action to their bondmate if all of the enemies who can see that bondmate are now suppressed.
These are just some rough ideas off the top of my head, I’m sure we could come up with something unique and interesting together, but the general point of the mod is to make the bondmate choice matter, as different bondmates will be able to do different things for each other.
This mod could also improve visualization on existing bondmate abilities. Don’t know about you, but most of the time I don’t remember that abilities other than Teamwork even exist. So I would love to expand the in-game visuals to remind the player about them.
